- I just moved to Alberta, how long do I have to change my licence?
- You have 90 days to change your Out of Province licence over to an Alberta Drivers license
- What documents do I need?
- Current Out of province drivers licence
- You will have to surrender your drivers licence
- Canadian passport, birth certificate or visa (Proof of legal residency)
- Mailed document, lease/rent/mortgage agreement (Proof of Alberta residency)

- How long can I drive my BC/SK/MB/ON vehicle in Alberta before changing it over?
- You must change your vehicle registration within 90 days.
- You will need to get Alberta insurance, and will need to get an out of province inspection completed on your vehicle prior to registering it in Alberta
- What do I need to get an Out of Province Inspection form
- You will need to bring in a copy of your current registration from the originating province
- How do I cancel my Out of Province plate?
- You will have to contact the originating province, Alberta registries can only cancel Alberta plates.
- My vehicle is new, do I still need an inspection?
- Not necessarily, if the vehicle was registered to you in the prior province and it is newer than 4 years we can apply for an exemption for you
- Please bring your current registration into a registry and we can confirm if you are eligible
- Does my dirt bike, motorcycle, or trailer need an inspection?
- Motorcycle – Yes
- Dirt Bike and Trailer – No, but we may require a photo of the VIN plate from the unit before we can register it
- My insurance is valid in Canada, why can’t I register my car with that?
- Your current insurance is valid in Canada to operate, however to register your vehicle in Alberta you do require Alberta insurance. Insurance from another province is not valid to register your vehicle in Alberta
- Do I get the same class of license?
- You will get the same type of license, but it may not be the same “Number/Letter” as what you are used to.
- For example, in Ontario you may have a G license, the equivalent in Alberta is a Class 5
- When can I get Alberta Health Insurance?
- You can apply for Alberta Health insurance after 183 days of being a permanent resident in Alberta
